Thailandese Women in Society

Women in Thailand are treated the same as many women from any other part of the world. Here, women can participate in politics. In fact 44 women of 499 politician in Thailand are women. From this 20 women in Thailand are senators or deputy. And there are 3 women from 35 member’s cabinet.
The Constitution provides for the equality of all citizens; however, some inequalities in the law remained.  For example, marriage and family laws discriminate against women as we mention in a previous topic, but besides that,  women in Thailand have the same opportunities as men. For example:

* In Thailand the prostitution for men and women is illegal,
* Women in Thailand can study to become a professional,
* If they want,  women in Thailand can become in a policewoman
* Women in Thailand can participate in the army of their country.

There are still arranged marriages in Thailand.  Parents can arrange a marriage if they want, it doesn’t matter the reason. Beside that, when a couple is getting married in Thailand they can’t see each other for 3 days after the wedding.
In Religion, women are forbidden to become a monk, as a fact women can even have any contact with monks because their religion says that a monk won’t be able to avoid any type of relation with women.

Women are trated as same as men and children according to the laws of Thailand. But, there some laws that play against women.
Rape, is ilegal for all men and women. But there is an exception because if a man rape his wife inside their house he can´t be judged by the justice, because rape between husband and wife is legal in Thailand.

Another law that is against women, is that men can´t be judged if they commit adultery, because in Thailand men are allowed to have more that one wife, according to their religion. But, women don´t. They can be suit and judged by adultery, and if this happend this migth take to a divorce or a millionare suit agaist the women.

How are women from Thailand?

According to some information that we found on the internet, women from Thaliand have almost the same oportunities and benefits from women from any other developed country.

But, their religion (buddhism) prohibit them to do some things that, for us, are very normal. We´ll see on this blog those things, and her participation in politics, society, religion, and others.
